Speed Comparison of Popular Web Hosting Companies
Our newly updated study shows interesting performance data of popular web hosting companies. The results were somewhat comparable to last year’s, although it was interesting to discover that certain web host’s speeds have greatly increased and thus we have some new contenders this year. This was no doubt due to hardware & network infrastructure upgrades. So without further ado, let’s take a look at the speed comparisons of 14 popular web hosts.
The web hosts with a shorter MS time scored best and should ultimately load websites faster than the ones with a longer MS time. Before you rush off however, it is important to note that these speeds greatly differ with the individual hosting plans each of these web hosts may offer. For example, the results above only show the test speed results of shared hosting plans – not a VPS or Dedicated plan. Furthermore, many of the web hosts listed above offer a variety of shared hosting plans, each with different levels of performance, features, & pricing. We did our best to compare similarly matched plans and, in general, measured the base/starter plans of each host. The only exception was SiteGround, which we tested their higher tier plan, GoGeek.
Comparing Prices Vs. Speed
It is also important to take a look at the price tag each of these web hosts charge with the above speed comparisons to get a better perspective on value. Some of these web hosts may be faster, but charge significantly more for their hosting. Others may be slower, but charge significantly less. Note WP Engine & iPage.
Each time we update our guide to the best Cheap antivirus software, one security suite stands head and shoulders above the rest. This time it’s BitDefender Antivirus Edition, which makes protecting your PC from viruses and other malware (including ransomware) as straightforward as possible. You can rely on it to detect and eliminate the latest threats as soon as they appear, with the minimum of fuss.
Both of these company’s most basic plans greatly differ in price. Keep in mind this may be an unfair observation as WP Engine is geared towards a different type of customer than iPage. Still, it’s important to note different prices when shopping around for a new hosting plan.
Comparing Downtime Vs. Speed
Downtime is another important factor to consider. Although you obviously want a fast web host, you also want a reliable one as well. WPS Office is a great looking office suite containing powerful tools for word processing, presentations and spreadsheets. It’s fully compatible with Microsoft Office file formats, and is packed with attractive templates. Best of all, its components work just like the latest versions of Word, Powerpoint and Excel, so you’ll be up and running immediately.
Software essentials for Windows, macOS and Android. It is updated every day with dozens of apps covering everything from productivity and communication, to security. Get Safely while discovering alternative software you can try.
When conducting our study, we also tested the uptime/downtime of each host. Note that downtime is harder to measure as it can differ from customer to customer (even on the exact same hosting plan). Listed below is a comparison of the downtime we’ve spotted from each host.
Note that the downtime data should be taken with a grain of salt as you may experience different numbers. Furthermore, each month greatly varied in the amount of downtime our test sites had. So you may or may not experience similar stats.
A Fast Host uses Premium Hardware & Infrastructure
Server hardware can play a big role in the performance of your website. A powerful server configured with lots of RAM and a powerful CPU can definitely help boost your website’s performance. Unfortunately, most web hosts do not disclose the server specs used on their shared hosting plans, so it can be difficult to determine which web host uses the best servers. However, VPS and Dedicated hosting plans usually disclose this information.
A fast web host requires a network with low latency, no packet loss, and direct connectivity to all major global Tier 1 backbones and other major networks & Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
